Because they’re so much better than the men?

Every US match is sold out in France.... So not sure the argument here.

This isn't women's college basketball. As far as I know, the US Women's team brings in a shitton of revenue, not to mention they're actually good

They really don't, though. People assume that they do based on their success, but every estimate I've seen still puts them wayyyy behind the mens team. Here's a link to a good article that breaks it down: https://www.businessinsider.com/wome...re-fair-2015-7

Personally, I like the free market being a determining factor in what people get paid, and based on what they generate, that's exactly what's happening.

That isn't how the world works here or anywhere. Don't believe me? Look at what cops and soldiers get paid to get shot at, or what teachers get paid to practically raise people's kids for them.

It's really simple ladies: If you want more money, move more jerseys at t shirts in the suburbs.

And if the governing body doesn't market them the same way as the men in order to give them the opportunity to make as much?

The US Soccer Federation is fucking awful. Probably the worst governing body in sports.

Pay to play has ruined the game and outpriced the kids who would actually be good.

Can we hire like the Women's assistant coach to coach the men?

So I made an intentionally provocative statement, then got caught up in a bunch of stuff without explaining.

We don't pay the women as much as the men because they don't bring in as much money as the men.

And its not their (as in, the US women's) fault.

The US men benefit because they play the most popular version of the most popular sport in the world. The fact that 80% of the world views men's soccer somewhere on the level between favorite sport and organized religion, because every single country is throwing a shitload of money at it. We play a friendly against any UEFA team, we benefit. COMEMBOL, we benefit. Mexico, we benefit. All that money radiates.

The US women... don't get that. Women's soccer is kinda sorta a big deal in the USA (at least during the world cup), and then... where else? Germany and Sweden, maybe? I just saw something where the Brazillian girls get five hundred fucking dollars per game. . I remember the 2015 world cup where England remembered they had a women's team somewhere around the quarterfinals. The international support is just not there. What countries do the US women benefit from playing in a friendly? Maybe four or five... max?

The 2018 World Cup in Russia averaged nearly 48,000 fans per game. The women's world cup averaged 17k in the first go-round, and I'd hate to think what that'd end up if you knocked the USA and France out of the equation.

If Thailand had played in the men's world cup, it would have been appointment TV, even if it was to get shredded by a Euro-juggernaut. How many Thai's do you think really cared about today's game? And Thailand's ranked 34th in the world- they're not even the worst team in the USA's group [Chile's 39th].

At the end of the day, one or two countries giving a shit isn't going to carry a sport, even if its the United States.

Is it fair to the girls? Not really. But its even less fair to the women of other countries, who are clearly putting their hearts and souls into this to even more resounding apathy. At the end of the day, that's where the improvement's gotta happen.

How does men’s and women’s gymnastics/ice skating pay structure work? I don’t really know about soccer but no one watches the men’s version of those sports.

Do they (the women) enjoy it and does it pay the bills? Most millionaire pro athletes seem to be utterly miserable.

The best comparison to make (whether people like it or not) is modeling and pornography. Men make a fraction of what women do in both of those industries because nobody is paying to see them. Unless someone here has a plan to change what people like and are willing to pay for on a global scale, those kind of pay disparities are never going to change.

And for the record, soccer is one of the more tolerable women’s sports to watch. I can’t stomach more than 10-15 minutes of women’s basketball, mostly because the game is tailor made to demonstrate traditionally male dominated physical attributes. A jump shot just doesn’t look as good when the “jump” is only 8 inches off the ground, dunking basically doesn’t exist, etc.
