Anyone else playing this game? The creation engine is giving me nostalgia for Fallout 3 and New Vegas lol. Definitely not great graphically but it plays like I would expect. It sorely needs local city maps to help with navigation on foot though. There is a lot of content though so it will likely take months for me to complete based on my playstyle.

    I'm 40 hours in.

I've enjoyed it so far. I'm collecting screenshots of Bethesda's classic bugs and glitches.

Base building is more tedious than it was in FO4. I get the idea behind it, so I'm willing to work with it, but it needs work.

Exploration is meh. The drawback to exploration is that I'm already encountering cookie cutter POIs. I've encountered the same exact layout of POIs several times. It wouldn't be so bad if it werent for the fact that it's the exact....same... layout. All the way down to the locations of dead bodies, enemies, chests, and where the keys are. I even encountered the same exact named dead body on 3 different planets.

    The scenery is outstanding.

The combat is great at times, but the AI is dumb as fuck.

I'm not that far into the story I've been focusing on exploring and leveling.

I like the skill tree system.

I’ve learned that Bethesda games are better a year or so in. I bought Fallout 3 a bit later and? Very few bugs. New Vegas? Couldn’t finish because the game files got corrupted. I just gave up.

I’ll pick up the newest XBox in a year or so. By then, they’ll have a bundle with all the DLC. I’m guessing it’s not coming to PS5.

I am relatively early in the game still trying to complete the first 4-5 Constellation missions where you gather the main companions. I had heard there is a TON of content that can sidetrack you but it is best to gather those companions first. I imagine you will need to take each one on several missions to build trust and access their side story content. I like the shooting but am still getting used to all the weapon options.

Starfield is going to be an XBOX/PC exclusive forever reportedly so I just took the plunge and am going to finish it on Gamepass. I may experiment with cross-progression on PC and see how that goes but that would not be compatible with the Steam version (only Microsoft store). By the way, there are rumors of a Fallout 3 remaster. I played Fallout 3 and New Vegas on PS3 back in the day but wish I had done my runs on PC/Steam for easier access to my old save files.

I've been investing heavy into ballistics and the science tree. I want to takenthe first run slow and easy to get a feel for everything. Sometimes I feel a bit OP. I'm level 25 but I sometimes have no problem downing level 60 enemies due to buffs and an AI that is pretty dumb.

I havent gotten too deep into the companions just yet. That's coming soon.

I am kind of spreading out my skills early trying to decide what path I prefer. I actually haven't invested in any of the combat skills yet as I find the combat is easy enough without needing to waste early skill points in them. I picked the Diplomat starting character tree and want to max out the persuasion, commerce, theft, etc skills.

Money hasn't been too much of an issue thus far. Persuation opportunities have been sparse so far but I haven't delved into questing too much. And thievery has not yielded the rewards to warrant the investment.

At least with investing into combat skills I can kill enemies of significantly higher level to get better loot. Merchants typically have a low cred count.

So far, I have leaned heavily into the science tree. I'm sure there is a better optimization, but my focus has been on outposts and exploring.

If my experience with Bethesda holds true for this, at lower levels, you almost never see benefits from these things.

It's cool that players can focus their builds on the aspects of the game they enjoy most. I don't plan to mess with outposts or ship building at all but it is nice to see that it exists with such depth. I would rather experience more of the story aspects and some combat.

I do enjoy the fact that you actually have to adapt your play style to go down the trees, instead of just going down the tree at will just to get the benefits.

It looks like I'm a little more than halfway through the main story. I have all of the characters, and I just went through the typical "crisis point" which signals the road to the end of the story. I haven't done much in the way of side-quests unless I just happen to be in the area of where the quest needs me to go. I may spend some time doing those before proceeding any further down the story.

The game has a massive amount of side content. I don't know the exact context but a lot of people say that the new game plus was implemented well and is worthwhile to experience. Maybe I will tackle some of the side content in a subsequent playthrough although I never really replay these massive games as I move on to the next one.

Stop and smell the side plots.
