  • CoronaVirus - non political thread

I just scored two free tickets to Cirque Du Soleil because friends are too afraid to go because of Corona Virus.

What irrational decisions are you making in wake of Corona Virus? Avoiding sex? Becoming a germophobe? Becoming a racist against asians?

    Better safe than sorry.

Just make sure the girl you're having sex with doesn't have a runny nose.

I did a supply run today for canned goods and water and such. I do so every year anyway because of hurricane season, but this just accelerated my supply run up by a month.

Usually I end up donating a good bit of that stuff to the food bank come thanksgiving, but rather have it and not need it.

I am waking up, going to work, grocery shopping at normal times, and going out as much as I normally would.

I’m not a full blown prepper moron, and I’m sure people will act like I am to troll me, but I always try to keep the following on hand if I can:

10 cases of water in my garage
A pantry full of canned foods and various non-perishables
Around 2 weeks worth of meat in my freezer (not really an issue after the first time you do it, just thaw/shop as usual and replenish the stock as you go)
Flashlight, basic tools, well stocked first aid kid, plenty of ibuprofen/Tylenol/aspirin

Only thing I haven’t bought yet is a generator, but I’m seriously considering it. I figure if some truly crazy shit happens, I’ll have enough stocked up to hold out for a decent amount of time until the military or whoever shows up. Worst case scenario and shit is so bad they don’t, I have an insurance policy and plenty of ammunition in my safe and I can go looting/robbing.

To anyone who may clown on me for this, my grandparents on my moms side lived through the Great Depression and told me a lot of stories about what they experienced. Shit can get really bad, really fast, and you don’t want to be completely helpless or without necessities if it does. It’s also important to remember that I live in a poor rural state with low population density, so if something catastrophic does happen, we’re pretty far down on the priority list.

If you’re really serious, go solar/battery backup. If shit really hits the fan, natural gas won’t be flowing to feed a generator and god help you if it’s diesel.

Living in a major metropolitan area, I’m not hanging tight if shit goes down. Headed to SW Va and the ole homestead. They’ve got plenty stocked up. I just need enough to get there.

I’m not. I consider a shit hits the fan scenario to be pretty unlikely, and honestly, power won’t really be my top priority if it does. I’ll be too busy trying to figure out where to go and what to do next to care about some food going bad.

I’m kind of hoping shit hits the fan and I get “stuck” in Costa Rica in a few weeks.

Is there any doubt Bellefaye is going to die in Costa Rica?

I bought a 4000W Sportsman generator last year, but that was more to run my pitching machine when we we're out on the baseball field.

If it goes down, I'll just steal my neighbors stuff.

What sucks it’s I’m going to England and Ireland in a couple weeks. Selfishly I hope it’s contained enough that travel is still easy.

My employer sent out a mass email more or less saying that if this situation gets bad enough, travel plans are cancelled and we’ll all be working remotely.
