  • Fresneck's Competitive Bearding Adventure

Since my OG thread died with the old board, I'm rebooting this one.
To help answer some questions up front, my regular category is Donegal/Whaler/Amish. Here’s a brief description: “Unbroken, unshaven area from temple to chin to temple with the upper lip clean shaven.” http://www.worldbeardchampionships.com/amish-beard/

Unfortunately, many competitions do not host my category, so I end up participating in Partial Beard, which encompasses many styles. Sucks, ‘cause mine rarely gets recognized against people with belt-length goatees and shit like that.

3rd Annual Southeastern Beard and Moustache Championships (2012)
    Charleston, SC
    Groomed Beard - 10th Place

2nd Annual Carolina Beard & Moustache (BAM) Competition (2013)
    Greensboro, NC
    Partial Beard - 3rd Place

4th Annual Southeastern Beard and Moustache Championships (2013)
    Charleston, SC
    Donegal - 1st Place

Showdown at the Southern Gates (2013)
    Nashville, TN
    Partial Beard - 2nd Place

    Love for the Beard (2013)
    Fredericksburg, VA
    Partial Beard - 3rd Place

Greenville Beard and Moustache Championships (2013)
    Greenville, SC
    Partial Beard – 2nd Place

4th Annual Just for Men National Beard and Moustache Championships (2013)
    New Orleans, LA
    Amish – 2nd Place

3rd Annual Brotherhood of Mustaches & Beards (B.O.M.B.) Beard and Mustache Competition (2013)
    Miami, FL
    Whaler/Amish – 4th Place (doesn’t count for shit!)

    Come & Shave it! 8 (Feb 2014)
    Austin, TX
    Donegal – 2nd Place

3rd Annual Carolina BAM Competition (Mar 22, 2014)
    Charlotte, NC
    Donegal – 1st Place

    Buckshot Beard Bonanza! 2 (Mar 29, 2014)
    Medina, OH
Partial Beard – 5th (Fuck every last bit of this comp. Easily the worst I ever attended.)

    3rd Annual Mid-Atlantic Beard & ‘Stache Championships (Apr 26, 2014)
    Richmond, VA
Partial Beard – DNP (I really hate partial beard. Especially when there are over 20 competitors in the category. Even worse when it's one of the biggest comps in the country and I'm mixed with goatees, donegals, and other random styles. At least I knew I wasn't placing at this one, so it didn't bother me in the end.)

5th Annual Southeastern Beard and Moustache Championships (May 24, 2014)
    Charleston, SC
    Donegal - 1st Place

LA Facial Hair Society's 2nd Annual Beard & Moustache Competition (June 21, 2014)
    North Hollywood, CA
    Partial Beard - 2nd Place

Inaugural Oak City Beard and Mustache Competition (19 July, 2014)
    Raleigh, NC
    Partial Beard - 3rd Place

Love for the Beard 2nd Annual Facial Hair Competition (09 August, 2014)
    Fredericksburg, VA
    Partial Beard - DNP

Inaugural Southern Gentleman Facial Hair Contest (06 September, 2014)
    Nashville, TN
    Partial Beard - DNP

Beardtoberfest - Episode II: Attach of the Beards (11 October, 2014)
    Fayetteville, NC
    Partial Beard - 1st Place

Midlands Bikes and Beards (25 October, 2014)
    Columbia, SC
    Partial Beard - 1st Place
Also took home my first ever Best in Show. Pretty stoked on that one.

Battle of the Beards: A Stache for Cash Benefit (15 November, 2014)
    Bellefontaine, OH
    Partial Beard - DNP

    4th Annual B.O.M.B. Miami Beard & Mustache Competition (27 December, 2014)
    Miami, FL
    Whaler/Amish - 1st Place
    Redemption!!!

Definitely. Full beard natural...Our comp here in Charleston, and a few other smaller comps, have "Salt & Pepper" beards. I'm probably gonna' partake in the next year or two...

I'm afraid the pepper has left the scene in my case.

SInce it's beard-related, a buddy of mine from the bearding world ended up in this commercial. He's wearing the white shirt with black suspenders in the background...Crazy things come about from such a simple lazy habit of not shaving...I guess there's another version coming out for the Miami market with Pat Riley also, but I thought it was kinda' cool he was asked to be part of this commercial series simply for having a huge goatee...

It was almost unfair in Charlotte this past weekend...But, I'll take another 1st place in the collection.

After a strong start to 2014, the last two comps were pretty frustrating. Things should get better for the next couple... I'm really hoping to make the LA comp; I imagine it'll be a little more exciting than Hickory, NC the same day.

I gotta' admit I'm kinda' proud of taking home 2nd Place in LA. Unfortunately, I can't make Nashville this weekend, so I'm taking a month off from competing and letting my beard grow for a minute. Next month in Fredericksburg, VA is gonna' be huge...I have no expectation to place 3rd again, but I do know most the judges, so there's no telling how it'll end up...I should have 10-15 people there specifically to root for me, so maybe their chants will help sway the judges my way. I fuckin' hate Partial Beard, though.

Duck Commander should sponsor one of these comps.
