Heartwrenching. A pregnant mother drove herself and three of her children into the ocean in Daytona Beach, Florida. Thankfully, rescuers were able to the pull the family out of the vehicle that threatened to pull them all into the deep.

Canadian photographer Simon Besner caught the harrowing incident on video, while rescuers fought with the 2-ton vehicle in the water, pulling 3 children and their mother out of the van.
It’s unknown why the driver would head straight for the ocean. One of the first people to reach the vehicle was Tim Tesseneer, who heard the screams of the children inside. He stated:

“The two in the back seat was crying, with their arms out saying ‘Our mommy’s trying to kill us, please help. The kids are like, ‘No there’s a baby. There’s a baby,’. She (the mother) wouldn’t say a word. She didn’t tell us nothing about a baby.”‘

The three kids, aged 10, 9, and 3, were transported taken to a local hospital as a precaution, though they did not appear to have been physically harmed by the event.

Have you ever been to Daytona? If I had to be there during any non spring break period of time driving into the ocean would sound like a good idea to me too.

My favorite Daytona sucks story. I'm in Daytona to call a minor league football game, we get there like 5 hours early because my color guy needs the paycheck bad and is all twitchy about it. So we get there and I'm like fuck it, if I have to be in Daytona I'm going to at least get a good meal out of it so I have him look up the best rated place on Yelp we can find and we head to the beach to eat there.

We get there, and the best rated restaurant in Daytona the bartender is like 14 months pregnant. She's so pregnant that at any moment I expect a third hand to come out from beneath her apron and serve me my beer. So this other group comes in maybe 15 minutes after super pregnant bartender takes our order and another waitress comes out of the back and she's at least 10 months pregnant too. This is right on the beach its the highest rated Yelp restaurant in the city and apparently the theme of the place is white trash pregnant bitches.

The moral of this story? Fuck Yelp. That site sucks ass.

The whole incident was so distressing that when it came time to call the game I wound up eating a bunch of hash because we both forgot to bring something to smoke with and I ended up using the entire game as an excuse to drop quotes from American Dad, but that's a different story.

That's an interesting story.

I've been there once back when I was living in Orlando for a short stint. We rolled up there on I-4, and it just happened to be some sort of bike week that week. After seeing that spectacle, we didn't go back there for the rest of my time in FL.

That's a lot of money...And, kinda' seems crazy considering the settlements and judgments laid down over the past couple decades. I wonder what kind of cash will actually move hands once they settle out of court...
