Maybe. But nothing is more Turkish than hating Russia.

        • However, there have been growing reports of concerted efforts to get Russians to enroll with the military, whose forces have sustained considerable losses since the start of the war on February 24.
On May 13, BBC Russian reported that over the last few weeks, military registration and enlistment offices have been sending men "subpoenas." The outlet spoke to at least three men who tore these requests, featured in the article and headline which said "covert mobilization has begun in Russia."

Last month, BBC Russian also reported that since the start of March, thousands of vacancies for contracted military personnel have been posted on civilian job search sites HeadHunter and SuperJob.

As previously reported by Newsweek, Russian government institutions across the country are recruiting staff for "wartime mobilization specialists." One advert for the Department of Internal Affairs in the north-western district of Moscow, posted on April 29, calls for candidates to carry out a range of tasks.

These included developing and adjusting "mobilization planning documents," and implementing "special decisions of federal executive bodies in terms of mobilization readiness and mobilization training."

              • Havent checked in for a little while...have the Russians begun their victory march in Kyiv yet?

                • What's Russia's exit strategy here?

They need to form a "win" somehow. And they also need to leave.

That depends entirely on who you ask.

The article I linked yesterday suggests their exit strategy is to struggle deeper into the quagmire.

                        • Turkey is apparently serious and, according to several media outlets, is blocking the start of NATO accession talks, which are intended to allow Finland and Sweden to join. Turkey only wants to agree to their accession under certain conditions.
Only a few hours after Finland and Sweden had submitted their applications for NATO membership, the decision was to be made to start the necessary accession process. However, as several media reports unanimously, Turkey thwarted this plan and blocked the decision.

He wants everyone to be against the Kurds both the Kurdish Workers Party PKK and Kurdish militia YPG.

A sticking point is how the West is dealing with the Kurdish Workers' Party PKK and the Kurdish militia YPG. Turkey classifies both organizations as a terrorist threat to its own country. She sees the Syrian offshoot of the PKK in the YPG.

In 2019, Turkey invaded northern Syria. Dubbed Operation Peace Spring, Turkey launched air and artillery strikes and sent ground forces to the northern part of the neighboring country. The invasion was condemned by western states. Although the PKK is also banned in the USA and Europe, the YPG is not classified as a terrorist organization there. On the contrary, it is seen as an ally of the US in the fight against "Islamic State" in Syria.

In the current debate, Erdogan accuses Finland and Sweden of supporting both the PKK and the YPG. In a speech to his conservative Islamic governing party, the AKP, in Ankara, the Turkish president reiterated this position. For Turkey, the expansion of NATO to include the two members goes hand in hand with the respect shown to their sensitivities, Erdogan stressed. Addressing Sweden, he accused Sweden of not wanting to extradite at least 30 "terrorists" - i.e. suspected supporters of the Kurdish organizations - despite requests made by Turkey.

Experts suspect that Turkey wants to enforce stricter action against PKK and YPG throughout NATO. "Ankara misses solidarity among NATO partners when it comes to the PKK and the YPG, which it sees as an existential threat," Mustafa Aydin, professor of international relations at Kadir Has University, told the dpa news agency.
Due to the Turkish intervention in Syria to kill Kurds some European Countries hit them with arms export sanctions. So he is also using his NATO veto to get that lifted. Also pissed at us because we got mad they purchased weapons from Russia and denied them our advanced fighters.

Another point of contention that could play a role in Erdogan's actions is arms deliveries. Some EU countries, including Germany and Sweden, had restricted arms exports to Turkey in response to the 2019 invasion of northern Syria. And the United States also imposed sanctions on Turkey after its government bought the S-400 missile defense system from Russia. For example, Turkey was excluded from the F-35 fighter jet program.

Yeah. There’s always the easy button. But, as you know, idiomatic phrases get lost in translation. You and I could translate Schweinhund and get pig-dog, but you know the connotation is much different. I could say Trojan ist ein warmer Mann. That doesn’t mean he’s warm, as you also know.
