Looks like that long march through the institutions might be coming to a stop soon, comrade. Is it really so hard to keep your crazies in the closet where they belong?

It doesn't matter if they're in the closet or not if they're having to register their political beliefs on a government form. Why should it matter what somebody believes politically if they conduct themselves professionally enough that they wouldn't out themselves as a communist, which would legally be enough to fire somebody from a public sector job for in California so who knows what Florida is working with. And students are being polled as well. What's next, a P to sew on to our clothing?

      • It will never not be funny to me when conservatives self-own themselves like they do with campus "indoctrination".

"Hey, all of those people who are more educated than the average person are liberal, why is that?"

It shouldn’t, but so many people have been unprofessional and bringing their politics to the workplace for so long that this is where we are. This is a very big issue for a lot of people and more than enough proof has been posted here and other places online to justify the concerns of parents. If you don’t like it, get a private sector job where you’re not accountable to the public, and remember not to make the mistake of thinking the public will always be on your side.

Now do I think it’s right from a moral standpoint? No, I don’t. Just expected, and it won’t stop here.

You just called someone who’s been cited over 15000 times a pseudo-intellectual. Do yourself a favor and never talk about education again.

That's bullshit reasoning, though. Basically, what you're saying is that it's more important to have politically reliable employees - in this case teachers and students - than it is to have competent or qualified ones. What kind of society feels the need to do that? Because I can tell you for certain that it's not a free one.

Let's look at it another way. Forget about the political views that most teachers have. Let's use social workers and police. Would the people they are supposed to serve benefit from having a politically reliable person in the place of the kind of person whose political views are normally drawn to that profession? Should we just skip the formalities and have a political commissariat responsible for monitoring their thoughts?

That's ignoring the fact that, while having certain political views is a firable offense in public sector jobs, lying on government forms is usually a criminal act. What is to stop the state from using this to imprison people for their beliefs?

Do you think people are fundamentally rational or emotional beings? Do they make careful decisions based off of past experience and anticipate the future, or do they respond to stimuli in the most convenient and base way possible to satisfy their emotional needs? I need to know what you think before we can continue this conversation, because that's a big part of my response.

I think that it's dangerously naive to believe that all humans will react either rationally or emotionally in all situations. While in a vacuum individuals are rational, under stress without training or preparation people will react much more emotionally. I also recognize that, given instructions from someone whom they consider to be legitimate authority, people will commit some barbaric acts.

                      Okay, politically.

I think that politics exists in service to economics. Politicians will tend to act as their owners dictate.

Okay. Well, my belief is that people are extremely irrational when it comes to politics, and any push in one direction will inevitably produce a similar response.

I don't care about culture war garbage. In every way that matters, we've been sprinting in an auth-right direction without deviation stove 1978. So miss me with that "this is a reaction to the left overreaching" stuff.

I know you don’t, but your apathy isn’t going to stop people from taking their political grudges out on you. I know you’re a good dude and you don’t support this kind of shit coming from anyone, and I agree with you in principle 100%. I’m just not going to act shocked or horrified when people do what they’ve always done.

That's the fucking problem. The culture war only exists to divide us from our natural allies without costing capital anything meaningful to them. How does a wage earner in North Florida benefit from forcing out a socialist teacher somewhere across the state? It's all a game by capital to distract everyone while they rob us blind.
