  • Defensive use of firearms!

I know people disparage the studies that say there are approximately 500,000 to 2.5 million defensive uses of a firearm each year. Here's just a snippet of some of those cases.

There is a reason people disparage those studies. It's because they aren't statistically sound.

          https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...=.35e945a14149

Hemenway found that not only are self-defense gun uses rare -- people defended themselves with a gun in roughly 0.9 percent of crimes committed over this period -- but in many cases they don't lead to better outcomes for crime victims.

"The likelihood of injury when there was a self-defense gun use (10.9%) was basically identical to the likelihood of injury when the victim took no action at all (11.0%)," Hemenway and co-author Sara J. Solnik found.
One of the most famous estimates of the annual prevalence of self-defense use, made in the mid-1990s by criminologists Gary Kleck and Marc Gertz, claimed between 2.2 and 2.5 million defensive gun uses annually. This estimate was based on a national survey of 5,000 people, of which 66 reported using a gun in self-defense in the past year.

But subsequent research has found that this high number is simply mathematically impossible. As crime prevention researcher Philip Cook has pointed out, "The Kleck-Gertz survey suggests that the number of DGU [defensive gun use] respondents who reported shooting their assailant was over 200,000, over twice the number of those killed or treated [for gunshots] in emergency departments." In other words, in order for the estimate of 2.5 million defensive gun uses to be correct, we would have to assume that self-defense accounts for literally every single gunshot victim in the United States, as well as a massive number of invisible gunshot victims completely unknown to medical or legal authorities. That simply isn't plausible.

You fucking moron - if nobody had arms, we would not have to use any defence mechanisms.

In war the first thing you do is disarm the enemy.

We are trying to disarm Iran and NK of their nukes because we don't want to use our nukes in a defensive measure.

Why is this so fucking hard to get through your fucking skull?

I think all that needs to happen is for fucks like you to be shunned and denigrated by the rest of us.

So, were any of those events false flag events, mis-reported, Smollett'd, or in any other way faked? If not, then why do you have a problem with source of the information?

CNN is one entity. Youtube is a collection of entities. Quite a distinction.

CNN is a verified broadcaster and have to follow US Broadcast rules of accuracy and language - Youtube is a collection of yahoos with nothing better to do - it's not a news gathering organization..

CNN is a branch of a corporation with a self admitted ideological bias. It's an excellent source of information if you are comfortable with being indoctrinated, or if you want to use it to balance information you get from another source(hopefully sources).

So a study was bad because it mis-represented the stats because surveyees lied. So you post another study that used similarly inaccurate information to produce a result (The study about people who own guns being more likely to be shot came from a phone survey btw). The facts are this, by even the lowest estimated figure (116,000 DGU), guns are used for defense at a much higher rate than they are homicides.

It was a collage of defensive gun uses that were aired on major news outlets.
