  • Bowl Projections: Week 13

The top four has a shakeup thanks to Oregon's loss.

    *Projected Conference Champion
CFP Title Game Orange Winner vs. Cotton Winner 1/10/22 8:00 PM ESPN
Fiesta Baylor (10-2) vs. Ole Miss (10-2) 1/1/22 1:00 PM ESPN
Rose Michigan (10-2) vs. *Oregon (11-2) 1/1/22 5:00 PM ESPN
Sugar Alabama (11-2) vs. *Oklahoma (12-1) 1/1/22 8:45 PM ESPN
Cotton *Ohio State (12-1) vs. *Cincinnati (13-0) 12/31/21 TBD ESPN
Orange *Georgia (13-0) vs. Notre Dame (11-1) 12/31/21 TBD ESPN
Peach Iowa (10-3) vs. *Wake Forest (11-2) 12/30/21 7:00 PM ESPN
    • Oregon's loss takes them out of the CFP, but now they must focus on the Civil War and to get a rematch with Utah in Las Vegas. Even though they were blown out, we have seen this play out before where Oregon loses the regular season matchup but wins the Championship Game rematch.
    • With Oregon's loss, that moves Notre Dame into the #4 seed.
    • With Notre Dame in the Playoff, this opens up a spot in the Fiesta Bowl. In comes Baylor at 10-2. I project of the four that go the NY6 bowls that Baylor and Ole Miss will be ranked higher than Iowa and Wake Forest.
    • Despite Wake's loss to Clemson, a Wake Forest win this coming weekend will lock them into the ACCCG. They are projected to beat Pitt. I do project Wisconsin to lose to Minnesota, which would have Iowa land here at 10-3. Iowa would still land in the NY6 if they do not go to Indy.
    • What to watch for is Michigan State and BYU. I have both of these two teams losing their final games (Sparty versus Penn State, BYU at USC). If BYU wins, then the committee would have to rank them ahead of Oklahoma State after back-to-back losses to Oklahoma, and Michigan State IF they were to win against Penn State.
As for the rest of the bowls, here's how I have them projected to lay out:

    Current Bowl Eligible Teams: 72
Projected finish of Bowl Eligible Teams: 81
    APR 5-7 teams: 1 (MTSU)
Teams IN since last projection: Florida State, Missouri, South Carolina, West Virginia
Teams OUT since last projection: Florida, Texas, Virginia Tech, Washington

We have four matchups of 5-6 teams which would guarantee 76 teams bowl eligible:
    • Florida State at Florida
    • Maryland at Rutgers
    • Charlotte at Old Dominion
    • MTSU at Florida Atlantic
We could have as few as those 76 teams being eligible, but also as many as 87 teams eligible. It could be 88 if either Cal or USC win out, and I have USC winning out. Hawaii is an asterisk team at 5-7, which they would only get in at 6-7 and IF fewer than 82 teams are bowl eligible. Here are the remaining 5-6 teams and their opponents:
    • Ball State (vs. Buffalo)
    • LSU (vs. Texas A&M)
    • Memphis (vs. Tulane)
    • North Texas (vs. UTSA)
    • San Jose State (vs. Fresno State)
    • South Alabama (at Coastal Carolina)
    • Syracuse (vs. Pitt)
    • TCU (at Iowa State)
    • Troy (at Georgia State)
    • Virginia Tech (at Virginia)
I shuffled some of the picks around for those that joined and those that were already in games.

    Nice work, nutt.

    BUTT

Boise is gonna' cock slap StDSU this weekend, and then beat FS in the rematch for the CCG...Thus, they'll be in the LA Bowl. WHich sucks, 'cause I was really hoping to see FS go 3-0 in LA this year. C'est la.

FSU vs FAU would be very awkward for Willie Taggart lol

            1. Air Force has the tie breaker.

            2. FS isn't going to the CCG with 3 conference losses.

              1. My bad. I wasn't sure on that one and I'm too lazy to look it up.
